Nodes [Moon]

Verdic and Hindu astrologers have used the Moons nodes for hundreds of years, they are known as Rahu and Ketu, or dragons head and tail, and are considered fated by the astrologers. The north node is considered a more beneficial influence than the south node which behaves like a Saturn influence. Also Rahu is considered to be a bringer of psychic gifts

A more modern use of the Nodes have been used in midpoints by Cosmo biologists charting which doesn’t rely on a house system, introduced by Ebertin and Whitt which has a great following, a more standard approach uses one of two methods of reading, one involves the aspects made between the planets and nodes, i.e., Mercury with the nodes, a strong desire for intellectual exchanges with others, Mars for team work, and fighting for common objectives, Venus, artistic contacts etc. In synastry there is often great attraction given by nodal aspects, and it is quite usual for parent and child to have nodal contacts, or even reverse signs or houses.

Another view is that the nodal axis psychologically represents the mothers love, the need for nurturing, the reflected collective need, aspects to it represent our psychological mothering, what we received and what we didn’t, like Jupiter conjunct would be an educational mother, a supportive teacher, Saturn square it, a cold and strict even absent mothering experience, planets aspecting it shows our unconscious need we put on society, where the squares show difficulties, the trines, sextiles and trines support. The other method of reading the nodes is by sign and house, i.e., like Gemini and Sagittarius involve the mind, there are issues to be resolved using reason and logic, versus wisdom foresight and faith. The houses would be the same, like in the 7th and 1st, when the tail is in the 7th it shows the ability to make relationships, but possibly at the expense of the self, the reversal would show a need to make relationship and forgo the self. Often both methods are read together. Some authors have taken the nodal points further, being fascinated with the spiritual aspect, some claim to read past lives by erecting a moon-node horoscope, a specialty of Bruno and Louise Huber, but if we can’t remember our past lives how can we verify their truth, but both have made much progress and results with using an age point.

Pamela Crane has developed The draconic chart, where the nodal axis is put against the first point of Aries for the ascendant, she uses some of Edgar Cayce’s clients and his work to prove its validity, apart from using it on my own chart and seeing the node conjunct the sun and moon position in Sagittarius in the 9th house, and Jupiter conj the Midhaven, I really haven’t used it on anyone else’s chart, it takes time to do, I guess that is why it hasn’t really caught on so well.

The nodes are universally recognized as measurement points for eclipses, touching the collective, personally its planetary contacts act as in associations, it refers to groups of people, political parties, unions or organizations, in the first house it relates to social life, personal associations, the second, permanent bonding, alliances, money, loyalty, devotion, the third many associations, ideas, short relationships, nursery, the fourth house, family ties, parental contact, soul unions, dependency, the fifth, popularity, many loves, team games, sixth, teaching associations, science, health, service, work relationships. Seventh, love affairs, teams public affairs, profit through others, making friends easily. The eighth, occult, legacies, secret relationships, 9th, idealistic, legal or political idealism, the tenth, honour, great achievement, business organizations, eleventh, many friendships, ideal plans, prominent social life, helpful, the twelfth, secret associations, ret homes, hospitals, nursing staff, restraint from others, philosophical interests.
